Methodology
- Query the LawyerLand listing database as of July 30, 2026, using ListingStatus='Published' and Expired=0 for the published inventory population.
- Count listing records and distinct listing owners separately because one firm may hold many city-by-practice listing rows.
- Count a city-by-practice page as populated only when it is associated with at least one currently published, non-expired listing owner.
- Reconcile the populated-page result against an independent directory-page inventory measurement; the recorded eligibility query SHA-1 is 1ed47209d7e010507525dbaffc79ee72beda2719.
Coverage and limitations
- This measures coverage in the LawyerLand directory, not the number of licensed attorneys, lawyer density, legal need, market share, or access to justice.
- Published status does not independently prove that a firm remains active or that its website resolves, so published inventory can overstate active firms.
- A listing row is a directory placement, not a law firm. A single firm can hold many listing rows.
- The snapshot describes the database on one measurement date and should not be treated as a current count after a newer version is released.
